Transplant Program
The transplant program at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital is world-renowned for high survival rates and the referral of complex patients from university medical centers. Areas of focus include:
  • Liver transplant in children
  • Pediatric small bowel transplant
  • Biliary atresia
  • Hirschsprung's disease
Our Pediatric Liver Transplant Program has one of the highest success rates in the nation and helps children with chronic liver disease, biliary artesia and other conditions. The Pediatric Intestinal Transplant team performs small bowel transplant surgery to improve the health of children with short bowel syndrome, sometimes caused by Hirschsprung's disease. Our Kidney Transplant Program has also achieved one of the highest success rates in the country, including advanced care such as adult to infant kidney transplant and steroid free kidney transplant.
 
Cancer and Blood Diseases
We provide care for children suffering from many pediatric cancer, blood diseases and blood disorders including:

Focusing on caring for children with illnesses such as leukemia, Hodgkin's disease, hemophilia and thalassemia, our hematologists and oncologists, stem cell transplantation specialists and other clinicians are committed to outstanding clinical care and research for childhood cancer and blood diseases. Children with cancer or other diseases, including aplastic anemia, affecting the bone marrow may be treated with a pediatric bone marrow transplant.
 
Brain and Behavior
The Brain and Behavior Center treats abnormalities of behavior, emotion, learning, language, development, sensation and movement, including:

The Pediatric Neurology Clinic offers comprehensive evaluation and management of children with diseases affecting the nervous system and muscles. Our pediatric neurologists and neurosurgeons treat childhood and pediatric brain disorders, including the diagnosis and management of brain tumors and spinal cord tumors in children. Our Pediatric Neurosurgery team treats a variety of neurological conditions in infants and children.
 
Children's Heart Center

Our children's cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery teams perform pediatric heart transplants, fetal heart surgery, unifocalization for repair of tetralogy of Fallot, and procedures for fetal heart rhythm disorders, pulmonary hypertension and other pediatric heart conditions.

Pulmonary Care and Cystic Fibrosis

We take a multidisciplinary approach to pulmonary care for children. In addition to a pediatric pulmonologist, a patient's pediatric pulmonary care team may include other specialized physicians as well as nurses, dieticians, social workers and respiratory care specialists. The Pediatric Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) clinic provides diagnostic evaluation and treatment of children with a wide range of problems, including deviated septum, sinusitis, otitis media and mastoiditis. Our ENT team performs procedures such as the placement of myringotomy tubes (ear tubes) for ear infections and endoscopic sinus surgery to open the passages of the sinuses.
